I purchased my first firearm for protection after a break-in scare. I heard some glass break downstairs one night and I knew someone was breaking into my home. I was terrified as I went downstairs to check out the scene with a broom handle. Actually, it was a handle from a Swiffer, but it really sucked to confront a dangerous criminal with a Swiffer handle. Thankfully, nobody was actually breaking into my home. It was the townhome behind mine. That window was broken which was about 2 feet away from my window. A few days later I purchased a Stevens 320 12 gauge pistol grip, pump action shotgun.

I purchased my second firearm for shooting at the range. I was tired of renting guns because that extra charge on top of membership and ammo wasn’t appealing to me. So, after finding my favorite handgun at the range, I bought the same kind. Glock 43 9MM.

Next, I obtained my concealed carry permit for personal protection outside of my home. The main reason I gravitated towards the Glock 43 was it’s concealability. It’s small, but still easy to fire accurately. Now, all I need are some Trijicon HD night sights and I’ll be ready to buy another gun!

Rifles vary widely, but can be generally described as a gun long gun held with two hands. Shotguns are also typically used with two hands, but are categorized by gauge instead of caliber.

Many people purchase firearms for personal protection or protection of their household. Having a firearm is protected by the 2nd amendment which gives a person the right to bear arms. Some states allow residents to concealed carry firearms under their clothing in public places.

Accessories can be purchased for safety and improvement of shooting. A gun safe is a smart purchase to make after purchasing a gun to keep it away from kids or anyone, but you. Accessories like extra magazines, sights, lights, lasers, etc. can help a person shoot better or feel better prepared for any situation.

What I like about this niche

Gun owners are obsessed with guns and often own multiple guns. Something about buying one gun gives people an addiction to buying more guns and different types of guns. You can really buy a gun for every room, or any situation, or any configuration that enables self-protection.

Since, gun owners usually purchase guns for protection, they’re more likely to justify owning more, and different kinds of guns. You really can’t put a price tag on possibly having to defend your life. This is what drives much of the passion in the firearms niche.

Accessories are almost a must after purchasing firearms. You can’t hold your own in a firefight with just one magazine. You might need a light for night combat or a laser or increased precision. The possibilities are endless when it comes to customizing and accessorising a new gun.

Consumers in this niche typically have disposable income. One thing has remained true about guns. They are expensive. I got my first shotgun on sale for $150 brand new. But, shotguns are cheap. I picked up the Glock 43 a couple months after it was released for a cool $549. When you start pricing higher end guns and rifles, you can easily spend more than $2000 on just one gun.

The target audience for firearms is relatively easy to find. You can find some pretty large groups of gun owners online. This offers you many opportunities to find those gun owners looking to purchase another firearm or accessories for the one they just purchased.

What I don’t like about this niche

Guns are inherently dangerous. Make sure your disclaimers are updated because people can be stupid and you don’t want to assume liablitly for anything. You also need to make sure you’re a safe person yourself and always use guns safely.

Marketing is limited in some places because of rules and regulations on guns. You can’t market all the places you could previously because regulations keep changing. For example, after the Vegas shooting, Reddit changed its rules and removed some of the gun-related subreddits.

In that same regard, the opposition against guns is also very passionate. Unfortunately, mass shootings have strengthened the arguments of anti-gun advocates. However, I’m not concerned about anything happening to the 2nd amendment.
