The story:

I was looking for another kind of fitness routine to supplement my regular weight training workouts. I wanted something to boost my cardio because that’s where I was lacking. I would run some 200m sprints after my workout, but I needed something more.

I joined a boxing class, but one of the instructors would teach kickboxing on her nights. Any kind of fight training is very difficult, but adding kicking to the mix makes it three times as difficult. Talk about shredded abs.

I still incorporate elements of kickboxing in my workout routines for the great benefits. Did I mention shredded abs? I have been working more of the mma routines, but I still use some kicks. I always recommend kickboxing to anyone looking to get in shape fast.

What is kickboxing?

Kickboxing is a stand-up combat sport based on kicking and punching, historically developed from karate mixed with boxing.

Kickboxing is an evolved form of boxing that features kicks. It’s very closely related to muay thai because it also features elbows and knees. Kickboxing also includes the clinch. With all of its similarities to muay thai, it’s difficult to pinpoint the origin of kickboxing.

Kickboxing has gained more popularity as a fitness workout because of its many benefits. Mainly it’s cardio benefits. This has led a large number of people to participate in non-contact, cardio kickboxing classes.

The rise of mma is enabling the growth of kickboxing as fighters from K-1 and Bellator enter the UFC. These fighters have had great success in UFC since they have a base in kickboxing. Muay thai and kickboxing will continue to grow together as a great foundation in striking.

What I like about this niche

The followers of this niche are very passionate. It seems like groups that are formed around combat are more passionate than other niches. The followers of kickboxing are obsessed about it and grow very committed to the practice very quickly.

A large number of women have become interested which expands the niche. Combat niches are normally geared towards men because they make up the majority of the audience. I really like kickboxing because women have become large supporters of kickboxing and that opens the market.

The forums get good traffic and have active members. Many niches have big followings on social media, but these also tend to have lower engagement rates. The forums can have a higher engagement rate because people sought out these communities outside of social media.

What I don’t like about this niche

Not the largest niche market value or projected value. I like to see the market value somewhere in the billions, but this is in the hundreds of millions. I’ll still take hundreds of millions, but this is something I don’t like about this niche.

Not many Amazon products to promote. The most purchased product in the kickboxing niche is gloves. Otherwise, there’s not that many products to promote.

Very similar to muay thai. This causes some confusion when trying to niche down and stay on brand. While you can create a kickboxing niche site, it will likely include some followers of the muay thai and mma niches.

I also like the idea of making a quiz called something like the, What’s your best kickboxing strike?” Then, ask for the users email after the quiz either a ?gate? page or the results page.

Traffic Sources

This niche is unique because the Facebook groups are mostly centered around local gyms who build a following around their members. Forums are going to be your best chance of promoting your kickboxing niche site. I could’ve kept finding more forums that were focused on kickboxing, but many of them also cater to the similar MMA audience.

FB groups

These Facebook groups have large numbers of people interested in kickboxing. I like that these groups have a large number of people and are already focused on our niche. The other groups don’t have as many followers, or are centered around a local gym. I couldn’t find many Facebook groups focused on only kickboxing since many of them like to include it as part of the MMA niche.

These forums get some good traffic, but some are MMA-related. These forums are worth browsing through and establishing yourself as a participant. These are the most popular ones. I couldn’t find very many kickboxing forums with much activity, but these are going to be the most passionate followers because they sought out another forum outside of social media. Likely, because they want a community focused on kickboxing without MMA.

You can’t find many subreddits for kickboxing, but this is the most popular one. It’s pretty active and the only one worth targeting for promoting your niche site.

The SEO difficulty for the general keywords is somewhat difficult, but not as difficult as other niches. If you optimize your website well and build some good backlinks, you can definitely rank for some of the general keywords.

The difficulty for the long-tail keywords is considerably easier than the general keywords. You should definitely target these as much as possible and be sure to answer any long-tail keyword questions on your site.

You can target some user-generated keywords, but I would suggest you target as many long-tail keywords as possible before answering user questions.

Somewhat low SEO difficulty for the kickboxing niche means you can get some great organic traffic after building out your site. That’s a great sign for building a long-term successful niche site.
