The story:

About 7 years ago, I became obsessed with lowering my body fat percentage. I wanted to be lean into the low single digits. I was already working out regularly, but knew I would need some accurate nutrition to supplement my workouts.

I started meal prepping to help achieve my goal. I would cook enough chicken breast to last for the week and package it for lunch. I made it to single-digit body fat percentage, but wasn’t enjoying the strict dieting. I’m still in good shape though!

Now, my wife meal preps for myself and our family. She plans out meals and cooks every few days. I can usually get leftovers for lunch the next couple days too. Thanks to her and meal prep, I stay in good shape and eat well.

Meal preparation, sometimes called meal prep, is the process of planning and preparing meals.

Planning meals daily can become difficult and overwhelming. Not knowing what to eat can lead to bad meal choices and contribute to weight gain. Even worse than the weight gain are the health issues that can come from being overweight.

Planning and preparing meals in advance is easier and less stressful. When a person knows what they’re going to eat for the next few days, they can make healthier choices in advance. This will have numerous health benefits and is the easiest way for that person to improve their eating habits. An added bonus is when a person can eat healthy while also enjoying the taste of their food.

Many meal prep services are starting up to help people achieve their weight loss goals. They also provide good tasting food that’s healthy, which keeps people coming back for more. This increased demand for meal prep has led many people to creating their own meal prep schedule as opposed to ordering from subscription services.

What I like about this niche

This is one of the easier ways to eat healthier because bad meal decisions typically occur when making last minute choices. Or, making that decision when hungry.

Large demographic to target. Nearly half of the population suffers from obesity and an even larger percentage are looking to change that. Basically, half of the population are looking to change their eating habits whether its for health benefits or physical appearance.

Great Amazon products to promote. As usual, Amazon has many high-converting products to promote. Another benefit of these products is that they’re a necessity to meal prep correctly. These can also lead into larger ticket items to help with preparing recipes.

Huge groups of people to target. The Facebook groups are pretty large and seem to be enthusiastic about meal prep. I found many large forums of people that are interested in weight management, which led them to meal prep. Also, I found the largest subreddit of any niche in meal prep.

Memorable and brandable domain names available at a discount. I could’ve kept finding more exact match domains because so many were available. You can also start your site with a more creative brand and target related sub niches.

What I don’t like about this niche

Basically only 1 Clickbank product to promote. I found another product that is possible to promote, but it didn’t have the greatest conversions. I typically like Clickbank products because they offer upsells with higher commissions.

SEO is difficult if you make the site too generic. Looking to target generic meal prep terms will compete with the large meal prep companies. Other large meal prep blogs do a great job of targeting long-term keywords so user-generated keywords are going to be the best strategy for organic traffic.

It could also be a resource of 10-20 things that will help them to learn put together their own meals. I also like the idea of making a quiz called something like, what diet should I use?” Then, ask for the users email after the quiz either a ?gate? page or the results page.

Traffic Sources

There weren’t many Facebook groups with good numbers because many of them are private since they’re attributed to other brand pages. There’s many forums to target that get good traffic and are centered around meal preparation for a certain goal. I usually keep Reddit as a last option to find more of the target audience, but this niche has possibly the largest following I found of any market research.

FB groups

These Facebook groups have large numbers of people interested in meal prep. I like that these groups have a large number of people and are already focused on our niche. The other groups don’t have as many followers, and many of the groups are private because they are part of a branded page. You have to search around to find good Facebook groups for meal prep. I would advise becoming a member of the public groups before using the private groups because the private group moderators will likely flag you for trying to promote your own niche site.

These forums get some great traffic, because they’re focused on fitness. These forums are worth browsing through and establishing yourself as a participant. These are the most popular ones and I could have kept finding more forums for weight management or fitness that discussed meal prep. These are going to be the most passionate followers because they sought out another forum outside of social media.

I did find another good subreddit for promoting your site, but that first group has more members than I’ve seen in other niche markets.

The SEO for this niche site is going to be very difficult if you just look to start a generic meal preparation site. Most of the larger brands do a great job of targeting long-tail keywords because that’s pretty common for them to do in the weight loss and weight management market.

User-generated keywords are going to be the base of a great SEO strategy for this meal prep niche site. As more meal prep services and products are being developed, people will have questions about which ones are best and how to get the best use from these products. You should be constantly looking through the forums and groups to find the most common questions being asked and answering those questions on your site.

After you’ve built a good library of content answering user’s questions and established yourself in some of these groups, then you should start going after these long-tail keywords in an effort to get traffic over to your money keywords.
