July 11 (Reuters) – The top of the United Auto Employees, which represents 150,000 U.S. hourly employees at Basic Motors (GM.N), Ford Motor (F.N) and Chrysler-parent Stellantis (STLAM.MI), stated the union shouldn't be afraid to strike any of the automakers and not using a honest contract.
“The Huge Three is our strike goal. And whether or not or not there is a strike, it is as much as Ford, Basic Motors and Stellantis,” UAW President Shawn Fain stated Tuesday in on-line remarks.
“They've made 1 / 4 of a trillion {dollars} in North American earnings over the past 10 years and so they can afford to make issues proper for our members. If the Huge Three do not give us our fair proportion, then they're selecting to strike themselves and we're not afraid to take motion,” Fain stated.
Talks with Detroit's Huge Three automakers begin on Thursday, forward of the mid-September expiration of the present four-year labor deal. Up first is Stellantis, adopted by Ford on Friday and GM on July 18.
Stellantis stated its “focus might be on negotiating a contract that can guarantee our future competitiveness in at present’s quickly altering international market and protect good wages and advantages that acknowledge the contributions of our represented workforce.”
